Daily Tarot Card: Seeker of Branches

About the Deck:

The Animal Wisdom Tarot is a gorgeous, vibrant and inspirational deck created by Dawn Brunke and illustrated by Ola Liola. It quickly became one of my absolute favourite decks and is a pleasure and a joy to work with. You can read more about the thinking process behind the creation of this deck here!

About the Card:

Today’s card is the Seeker of Branches (Knight of Wands). This card shows a dromedary camel in the forefront of the scene, chewing on a small branch. Behind the camel are four other camels on the move, passing by some Egyptian pyramids. The sky above is cloudy but colourful, shining down on the animals.

Keywords: Persistence, Energetic, Adventure, Moving Forward, Pacing, Stability

Personal Meaning:

Unlike many of the other cards in the Animal Wisdom deck, I feel this card has a slightly different meaning from the traditional Knight of Wands. The energy of this card seems a lot slower and calmer than the firey and fast energy of the Knight of Wands. Represented by the camel, I feel this card is telling me to slow down a little and enjoy the journey.

Camels are experts at travelling through deserts and other hard terrain and can go long periods of time without water. They store fat in their humps which acts as a water and energy source until the camel reaches somewhere to drink. Because of this, the camel is often known as the ‘ship of the desert’.

I feel this card is telling me to plod on; to move forward and find out what is over the next hill. Life is unpredictable and no one can truly predict what will happen next, no matter what they claim. There’s no reason to get upset over things that haven’t happened yet and may not even happen at all! So I need to conserve my energy and instead keep moving forward.

The element of fire suggests passion and creativity; I need to focus on what is making me passionate at this time and move slowly, not rush into anything. The camel being separate from the rest of it’s herd shows me that it’s okay to tread the path less traveled; after all, it is that which makes me unique.

I really feel that this card is telling me to take it slow, to keep moving forward and to follow my passion. As Ralph Waldo Emerson said “Life is a journey, not a destination“.
